The Latest Innovation in Ski Boots

“Stop thinking about your boots and start thinking about your skiing.”
The first production ski boots were created in Switzerland in 1885. The first double boot was released in the 1940s with the first buckle system dropping in 1954. In 1966, stiff plastic boots dramatically improved edging power on ice and quickly dominated racing circuits. The first truly “modern” boot released in 1973, with a removable and customizable inner boot, overlap or external-tongue closure, and hinged cuff with a high-back spoiler (see the Nordica Grand Prix for reference). That boot looks pretty similar to boots you’ll see at any resort today. Since the 1970s, innovation in the world of ski boots has been pretty incremental, until last week that is.
Why the history lesson?
Well, Armada released their first ever ski boot last week and the reaction from customers, pros, and critics has been astonishing. I personally read through dozens of the hundreds of comments on social media and was blown away by the general excitement level.
The new boot, fittingly dubbed AR ONE, fills a pretty interesting void in the market: A Hybrid boot with Cabrio Comfort and 4-Buckle Performance.
Comfort and performance, with no compromises? Sounds great on paper, but hard to deliver. By all early indications the Armada team has done it. But how?
It’s all about innovation. The AR ONE’s smooth progressive feel, aka Natty Flex is driven from the spine of the 2Komponent Cuff, while overlap in the cuff and forefoot work with the custom Slingshot Buckle to wrap the forefoot and ankle. The result is comfortable, customizable, and high performance heel-lock - adaptable to any style.
We’ll be in line with everyone else to get my hands on a pair. Congrats to the team at Armada on another big win. Check it out for yourself at ArmadaSkis.com.
